Conditions
What's troubling you?
Written by our consultants, in the plainest language we can manage: what the problem actually is, what usually helps, and the specific signs that mean you should be seen quickly rather than waiting.
Acidity, Indigestion & GERD
Burning in the chest, sour regurgitation, bloating and upper abdominal discomfort - the commonest reason people come to see us, and one that affects roughly a quarter of adults.
Often silentFatty Liver
Excess fat stored inside liver cells. It usually causes no symptoms at all and is most often picked up by chance on an ultrasound done for another reason.
SeriousCirrhosis
Long-standing liver disease in which healthy liver tissue is progressively replaced by scar tissue.
Hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver - most often from a virus (A, B, C, E or delta), but also from medicines, autoimmune disease or chronic alcohol use.
Ascites
A collection of fluid in the abdominal cavity that causes the belly to swell, often with early fullness after meals, heaviness and leg swelling.
CommonAbdominal Pain
Pain in the belly - sudden and severe (acute), or long-standing and intermittent (chronic). The two are investigated quite differently.
Screening mattersColon & Rectal Cancer
Cancer of the large bowel. Around a quarter of cases run in families; the remaining three-quarters occur in people with no family history at all.
Colon Polyps
Small growths on the inner lining of the large bowel. Some are entirely harmless; others are the stage before cancer.
CommonConstipation
Straining, hard stools, or fewer than three bowel movements a week - and the feeling of never quite finishing.
Diarrhoea
A change in the consistency or frequency of stool. Under two weeks is called acute; beyond four weeks it is chronic, and the causes are entirely different.
Difficulty Swallowing
The sensation of food or liquid sticking, or of not being able to start a swallow at all.
TreatablePiles, Fissure & Fistula
The conditions people put off talking about for years - and which are, in almost every case, straightforward to treat.
When not to wait
Vomiting blood, black tarry stools, severe abdominal pain with fever, yellowing of the eyes with pain, or increasing drowsiness in someone with liver disease — these need to be seen the same day. Call +91 99795 56666 or go to your nearest emergency department. In an emergency, dial 108.
