What it involves

Early cancers and pre-cancerous change that ordinary white light would miss become visible - which matters most in Barrett's oesophagus, early stomach and colon cancer, and in telling a harmless polyp from a dangerous one.

You might be advised this if you have

  • Barrett's oesophagus surveillance
  • A polyp that needs characterising
  • Family history of gastrointestinal cancer

Preparing for it

Preparation is the part patients most often get wrong, and it is the part that most often causes a procedure to be repeated. Our full instructions — including bowel preparation, fasting times, which of your regular medicines to continue and which to stop — are on the preparation page. Please read it before the day.
