Fibroscan
A painless scan that measures how stiff the liver is - and how much fat it contains - without a biopsy.
What it involves
It stages liver scarring (fibrosis) and quantifies fatty change, so that fatty liver disease, hepatitis B and C, autoimmune hepatitis and cirrhosis can be followed over time with a repeatable number instead of a needle.
You might be advised this if you have
- Fatty liver found on an ultrasound
- Hepatitis B or C under follow-up
- Abnormal liver blood tests
- Diabetes or obesity with liver concerns
