Acidity, Indigestion & GERD
Burning in the chest, sour regurgitation, bloating and upper abdominal discomfort - the commonest reason people come to see us, and one that affects roughly a quarter of adults.
Fatty Liver
Excess fat stored inside liver cells. It usually causes no symptoms at all and is most often picked up by chance on an ultrasound done for another reason.
Cirrhosis
Long-standing liver disease in which healthy liver tissue is progressively replaced by scar tissue.
Hepatitis
Inflammation of the liver - most often from a virus (A, B, C, E or delta), but also from medicines, autoimmune disease or chronic alcohol use.
Ascites
A collection of fluid in the abdominal cavity that causes the belly to swell, often with early fullness after meals, heaviness and leg swelling.
Abdominal Pain
Pain in the belly - sudden and severe (acute), or long-standing and intermittent (chronic). The two are investigated quite differently.

Upper GI Endoscopy
A thin flexible camera passed through the mouth to examine the food pipe, stomach and the first part of the small intestine.
Colonoscopy
The same examination from the other end - a flexible camera that inspects the entire large bowel and the last part of the small bowel.
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
An ultrasound probe mounted on the tip of an endoscope, giving the closest possible view of the pancreas, liver and bile ducts.
ERCP
An endoscopic technique for treating blockages of the bile duct and pancreatic duct without open surgery.
Manometry & 24-hour pH Study
A pressure test of the swallowing muscles, or of the anal muscles, that measures how well they are working.
Fibroscan
A painless scan that measures how stiff the liver is - and how much fat it contains - without a biopsy.

The kit behind the diagnosis
Most hospital websites say "state of the art" and leave it there. Here is what we actually have, because when you are being told you need an EUS it is reasonable to ask what it will be done with.
- Olympus ME2 — endoscopic ultrasound
- Medtronic solid-state manometry — the hospital's stated position is that this is the first and only such system in Gujarat
- ERBE electrocautery with APC — bleeding control and tissue ablation
- 3D laparoscopic camera system — minimally invasive surgery
- Dedicated reprocessing room — automatic dual-scope endowasher, ultrasonic cleaning, autoclave and ETO. Every scope, every time.
A gastro and liver ICU, not a general ICU bed
Gastrointestinal bleeding, cholangitis and acute-on-chronic liver failure are managed in a unit built for them, at a stated 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.
Evening OPD
Extended consulting hours at Vastrapur and Nikol, so that seeing a specialist does not cost you a day's work.
